A Gift for Santa
(Northern Lights #2)

by Beth Carpenter
Contemporary Romance
Mass Market Paperback & ebook, 384 pages
December 1st 2017 by Harlequin Heartwarming

It’s the season for giving…and starting over?

A reindeer farm without Santa wouldn’t be Christmas in Marissa Gray’s Alaskan hometown. Luckily Chris Allen’s there to pinch-hit, although for Marissa, seeing her ex-fiancĂ© again brings back memories of what might have been.

Ten years after their breakup, the feelings between the wildlife biologist and blue-eyed fisherman are stronger than ever. Only now there’s a foster kid in the mix, as well as the shocking crime that cost Marissa her job and her family’s security. She and Chris need to find their way to a meeting of minds and hearts to make this truly a season for second chances…

My Review

Marissa uncle is not able to play Santa this year so her aunt Becky suggest Chris do  it but Marissa is not so sure since they were once engaged. I really enjoyed this book, loved how Chris did such a good job playing Santa. Chris meets Ryan who is in foster care, they become friends. This is a 2nd in the series so I really enjoyed seeing some characters from the first book. I found myself getting attached to the characters and they seem so real. So enjoyable with the reindeer and other animals in the book. I hope there will be more books in the series. I received an advanced copy of the book from the Prism book tours.

About the Author

I love life, love my family, love writing Christian fiction–reading, riding my horse and puttering in my garden are all ways I relax. I often have my little 7 lb Chihuahua, Lacey, on my lap when I’m working–there’s nothing like a warm ball of love on your lap to act as a stress reliever! First and foremost I’m a child of God and daughter of the King. I’ve been involved in women’s ministries for years, I’m married to a wonderful man, have two grown children, two cats, two dogs, 10 chickens and ride my son-in-law’s Arabian mare since my old mare passed in 2013. We live about 9 miles from the nearest town on 11 acres, in a peaceful setting surrounded by trees. I started writing shortly after I turned 50, and discovered I loved it so much I don’t want to stop. I have 15 novels out & a five book set of horse novels for middle-grade girls. I write both women’s contemporary fiction, historical & contemporary romance, and horse/mystery novels for girls. One of my Western romances, Love Finds You in Sundance, WY, was awarded the Will Rogers Medallion for Western Fiction, three books have been optioned as movies, and several books have been on the ECPA best seller list. Guest Post from Miralee Ferrell

In the spring of 2015, I received an email from a Hollywood producer, followed by a phone call. Imagine my surprise when she asked if I’d be willing to write a book for them. They were no longer producing the Love Finds You books into movies and were working on a different project for UP TV, a possible three-movie series, and she hoped I might be able to work with them. She explained that she’d optioned Love Finds You in Sundance, Wyoming, two or three years earlier, and loved it. Of the thirty-five or so titles she’d read of the line, that was her favorite. However, UP TV didn’t want to make historical or old west movies, so she’d shelved it for now. During that time period, I’d gotten my rights returned to all of my LFY books and had retitled them Finding Love in Last Chance, California, Finding Love in Tombstone, Arizona, and Finding Love in Bridal Veil, Oregon. Sundance became Outlaw Angel, and all four are still in print. Here’s the amazing part. I came very, very close to turning down that contract offer with Summerside for Sundance. I was disappointed in the advance and royalty rate, and shortly after they released it, they sold the line to Guideposts, and that company didn’t continue the line much longer. Understandably, sales waned on their final releases, and I was disappointed with my sales from that final book as my others had done quite well. For a long time, I wished I hadn’t taken that contract and instead held out for one with another company for a three-book series. However, had I done that, I doubt Runaway Romance would ever have been written. It was Sundance that grabbed Chevonne’s attention and caused her to contact me. And the rest, as they say, is history.

My Review

I am so glad this book is going to be a movie, while reading it I felt like I was watching a movie. Such an enjoyable book. Annie/Ann is on a reality show but gets kick off the show for a short time, she is not happy about it so she gets away and ends up in a Amish community and no one knows where she is. She meets Hunter who is not Amish while she is there. She stays at an Amish Inn own by Sarah who is Amish. I wish I could visit there myself. I really loved the interaction between the characters, Annie and Sarah were both my favorite characters. This is a first in a series and I definitely look forward to reading the next book. You will love this book and any book by Miralee Ferrell. I received an advanced copy of the book from the author for an honest review but not required.

Beauty from Ashes blog tour

About the Book

Name of book: Beauty from Ashes
Author: Alana Terry
Genre: Christian Women’s Lit
Release Date: July, 2017

A baby was never part of Tiff’s plans. Especially not a sick baby in a NICU, struggling for life on a ventilator. As days in the hospital turn to weeks, Tiff grows more and more convinced that God is punishing her for turning her back on him so many years ago. Or is it possible he’s working in the midst of her daughter’s bleak prognosis to draw Tiff back to himself once more? The Orchard Grove Christian Women’s Fiction books are standalone literary novels about real-life believers facing real-life struggles. You won’t meet perfect saints whose lives are faultless models of the Christian faith. Instead, you’ll meet a perfect God whose plans of redemption are far more glorious than what the mortal mind could ever imagine.

Alana’s passion for social justice, human rights, and religious freedom shines through her writing, and her books are known for raising tough questions without preaching. Guest Post from Alana Terry

Click here to see the special video message from Alana. “You better come in,” I told my husband. “The doctors don’t think he’s going to make it.” Not the kind of conversation you want to have with anyone at one o’clock in the morning. I was spending the night at the hospital with our nine-month-old baby Silas and hadn’t left the hospital complex in days. Scott was home with our toddler trying to get some sleep. And our son Silas was dying. Raising a medically-fragile baby changed me like nothing else ever has. Thankfully, Silas pulled through that horrific evening, but that didn’t mean life was sugar and cream from then on. As anyone with experience knows, it’s hard work being a special-needs mom. And it can devastate a marriage. Thankfully, God brought my husband and me through those nearly impossible first few years while Silas was in and out of the hospital with no guarantee of his survival. And he continued to sustain us through even more years of therapy, hospital visits, and medical tests. And now we have a happy marriage, a healthy boy, and hearts full of gratitude for all God’s done for us. But I never want to forget where we were. The depths God delivered us out of. The despair that would have overwhelmed us if God hadn’t been our strength and our support. Writing Beauty from Ashes was one way to remind myself of those difficulties God brought us through. It’s not strictly autobiographical, but the baby in this novel went through a very similar traumatic birth experience as Silas did, and all the health issues — including that night in the hospital when I truly thought we were going to lose our baby — are based on the trials we went through when Silas was young. I wrote Beauty from Ashes because we all need to be reminded every now and then that even though life can be impossibly hard, even though there’s no guarantee our children will grow up and love Christ and make good choices with their lives or even survive until adulthood at all, God is good, and he will sustain us through all the trials we have to endure. I think that’s why Beauty from Ashes resonates so much with Christian readers hungry for more than a simple story with a happily-ever-after ending, like these readers: “…by far some of the best Christian fiction I’ve read.” Amy L, author ” … a story that is both heart-wrenching and heartwarming.” ~ Jaime Hampton, award-winning author of Malnourished “I didn’t think it was possible that the author could write any better than she already does … This is a book I will never forget … She writes with realism and doesn’t pull any punches … Every time I read a book from this author, my faith grows.” Deana at Texas Bookaholic I hope you’ll take a chance to grab your own copy of Beauty from Ashes today, and don’t forget to watch the video and enter to win the $100 gift card to christianbooks.com. Because Christian fiction should encourage, edify, and inspire. And because God is big enough to carry all our burdens.

My Review

When I first started reading I kept trying to figure it out, I guess because of being in first person and they were at a church service and the character is thinking and telling about her life. After several chapters the church service was over, the book started making sense to me because of more dialogue. Tiffany is newly married and just had Natalie a few months earlier that has a lot of health problems. Tiffany is dealing with her past with growing up a foster child. Also dealing with a mother in law that is staying with them helping with Natalie but trying to take over. I really admire Tiffany and the patience she had and how she was encouraged by Grandma Lucy that did the long Prayer at the church service. I was was really encouraged by Grandma Lucy also. Once I got past the first few chapters the book was hard to put down. It was really interesting. This is my first book by Alana Terry even I have lot of hers on my TBR list and I do look forward to reading more of her books. I received an advanced copy of the book and this is my opinion.

Guest Post from Dana Mentink

Howdy, readers! I am thrilled to be bringing you this four book Gold Country Cowboys series that takes place in an area near and dear to my heart! My family and I have enjoyed many adventures in this amazing area, from exploring gold mines, to climbing through caverns, and soaking in the incredible history. As a matter of fact, we recently enjoyed a train trip on the historic V and T Railroad which took us past abandoned mines and even some active ones where people are engaged in modern day treasure hunting. California’s Gold Country is a fascinating place filled with secret treasures. I hope you will enjoy some wild adventures with four cowboy brothers who have some secrets of their own. God bless you all!

My Review

I felt I was in the scenes with the characters because the description of everything in the book made it so real. I felt like I was watching a movie. Someone is out to get Shelby and Barrett is determined to be her guardian even though she is related to the person that caused the death of his wife. Shelby is determined to help her uncle but someone is out to stop her from getting what she needs. The book was hard to put down, great suspense. This is a first in a series and I definitely look forward to reading more about the Thorn family. I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy of the book from the author.

The Gift Blog tour

About the book:

A special Christmas story about love and blessings in the next book in the Amish of Hart County series
The Schwartz family is happy to be spending Christmas on their new farm in Hart County. But when Susanna Schwartz hears gunshots that causes her buggy to overturn, and then her little sister falls through a wooden bridge into the icy creek, it becomes clear from these dangerous "accidents" that someone wants them gone.
Neil Vance has been heartbroken ever since his parents lost their family farm. He knows it's not the Schwartz family's fault, but he can't help but be resentful. Until he meets Susanna. She is kind-hearted and bold, and Neil can't stop thinking about her pretty green eyes.
Neil thinks the accidents are just that, but Susanna's father is convinced the Vance family is responsible. Susanna refuses to believe Neil would do anything to harm her. She's fallen in love with him and knows he is a good man. But her family is ready to pack up and move, and time is running out to uncover the truth before someone gets hurt . . . or worse.

My Review

Susanna and family just moved to a farm that another family was forced to sell. Someone is trying to do harm to their family. Neil is part of the family that had to move from the farm. At first he does not want to be friends with Susanna but he changes his mind and then ends up helping her find who is against them. Enjoyed the mystery of the book and I am loving this series. Can be read as a stand alone book since does not continue. I read this book in one day, meaning it was a book hard to put down. I received an complementary copy of the book from the publisher.
